Fieldstone Lending, a small-business funding broker in Gillette, Wyoming, arranges inventory financing through lending partners for Campbell County retailers, wholesalers and other businesses that buy stock before they sell it. The goods usually secure the deal, and payments follow the stock financed. Partners review turnover and invoices, decide, and set terms.

How inventory financing works
A partner advances money to buy goods for resale, and the goods serve as collateral. Repayment may be scheduled, or tied to sales of the financed stock. Some structures pay the supplier directly; others fund the business against an existing stock count.
Partners rarely advance the full retail value. They look at what the goods would bring if they had to be sold quickly, which depends on what the stock is, how fast it moves, and whether it spoils or goes out of style.
Collateral and UCC filings
When inventory secures a deal, the partner usually records its interest in a UCC financing statement filed with the state. That filing tells other creditors the stock is pledged. Before signing, ask which assets the filing covers: only the financed goods, or all inventory and receivables. A broad filing can make the next funding request harder.
Campbell County, WY retail and wholesale in Census figures
Retail trade had 177 employer establishments in Campbell County in 2023, with 2,482 paid employees and $101.5 million in annual payroll; wholesale trade had 91 establishments and 1,253 employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Retail was the second-largest sector by establishment count, after construction.
Around the office, retail is the top sector: ZIP 82716 had 79 retail employer establishments in 2023 (U.S. Census Bureau, ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023). Separately, Nonemployer Statistics counted 325 retail businesses with no paid employees in the county in 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024), a different program and year.
Working out how much stock to finance
Partners think in turnover: how many times a year the stock sells through. A rough figure is your annual cost of goods sold divided by your average inventory value. A labelled example with invented numbers: a store with $360,000 of annual cost of goods and $90,000 of average stock turns about four times a year, so a typical item sits for about three months.
Finance the stock you can sell within the repayment period, not the stock you would like to have. If an order will take six months to sell, a structure that expects repayment in three will squeeze the business in the middle.
Retail store loans and other routes to stock
Owners searching for a business loan for a retail store usually need one of three things: stock for an expected sales stretch, a finish-out for a new storefront, or a bridge while receivables catch up. Inventory financing handles the first. A term loan handles a finish-out better, and a line of credit suits recurring restocking where the amounts change from order to order.
Wholesale and distribution
Wholesale trade had 91 employer establishments in Campbell County in 2023, paying $106.7 million in annual payroll (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023), and the county counted 50 wholesale businesses with no paid employees in 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024). Wholesalers often buy in larger lots and sell on invoice terms, so inventory financing and a line secured by receivables are commonly weighed together. A partner will want to see both the stock and the receivables aging.
Stock funding for a Campbell County, WY startup
New businesses often ask whether stock can be financed before there is a sales history. Some partners will consider it with a larger owner contribution, signed supplier terms, or a personal guarantee; others require an operating record first. Supplier credit, such as net-30 terms, is worth asking your vendor about before any outside funding.
What partners commonly review
- Supplier invoices or purchase orders for the stock.
- How quickly stock has turned over in the past.
- Bank statements, plus financial statements once the request is sizable.
- Existing liens on inventory or receivables.
- Where the goods are kept and how they are counted.
